Explanation of terms:
The Status can be:
- Registered - Practising (or Provisional Practising or Practising under Section 28a of Veterinarians Act)
This means that the veterinarian holds a practising certificate and is entitled to practise in the full scope of veterinary practice.
- Limited registration - Practising
This means that the veterinarian does not hold recognised primary qualifications for registration as a veterinarian in New Zealand, but had sufficient expertise and education in a specific area of veterinary practice to justify registration in that area of practice and holds a practising certificate.
Veterinarians registered in a limited scope of practice may only practise within the boundaries of their limited scope of practice.
- Suspended or Removed - Certificate suspended or cancelled
This means that the practitioner's registration has been suspended or removed as a result of disciplinary action or health or competence concerns. The practitioner concerned is not entitled to practise. Suspension is normally imposed for a finite period. If this is the case the practitioner's register entry will state when the suspension period ends
- Registered (or Limited Registration) - Non practising
This means that the practitioner is listed on the register but does not hold a current practising certificate and is not entitled to practise during the current practising year ending on 31 March.
Conditions on Practice:
Conditions on a veterinarian’s practice may be applied to assist the veterinarian re-enter practice after a break, in response to competency or health issues, as a result of disciplinary proceedings or in accordance with the provisions of limited registration.
If you cannot find the veterinarian you are looking for in the public register, this may mean that they are not entitled to practice. Please contact us if you need more information.
