Update: Under the Care and Specific and Limited Services
24 April 2026

Changes to the Code of Professional Conduct are now in effect, following our Under the Care consultation. As part of this work, we have clarified parts of the Code to better define a client and vet relationship; outline a veterinarian’s responsibilities around providing care and authorising RVMs; redefine what a specific and limited range of veterinary services is; and address potential areas of confusion, particularly around emergency care, after hours.
All veterinarians should familiarise themselves with the updates and ensure they understand the changes, particularly vets who provide a specific or limited range of services. A summary of the changes is available on The Hub.
As of 1 April, the changes are officially part of the Code and veterinarians need to comply with them. We recognise that it will take time to understand the new provisions and what they mean for your practice. With that we will be taking an educational and enabling approach before enforcing these rules. Please do reach out to us If you have questions or need guidance on what the changes mean for you and your practice, please email [email protected]
